Going to bat for BAT–shirt #30

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

Steve S. lives in the San Diego area. He’s a sports and car buff who also happens to be Grace H’s brother. I’m glad he stepped up to sponsor this vintage logo Padres shirt for this quilt. Thanks Steve!

We’ve reached the end of the t-shirt photos and contributor introductions. Tomorrow, I’ll tell you a little more about a few other folks who have stepped up and made other donations to support this quilt.

Going to bat for BAT–quick update

Friday, July 29th, 2011

The rain delay in last night’s Pirates-Braves game gave me *just* enough time to finish assembling the last two rows of t-shirt blocks. This weekend’s task is to re-press the blocks (to get the seams nice and flat) and sew the rows together, making the actual quilt top. I’m still not 100% certain of the width of the border, but I can tell you that this will be a BIG quilt–something between queen and king size.

Rosemary T. is actually a diehard Yankees fan–but she also follows the Green Bay Packers. Since the Brewers are in the same state as the Packers, and are in the National League, she stepped up and contributed this shirt. Thanks Ro!

Mary Ann K. is a  good friend who is the litigation technology manager for a major law firm–and she is also a devoted baseball fan. Although she grew up in New England, she now lives in the Cleveland area and the Tribe is her adopted team.

This concludes the American League shirts and contributors. We have two more National League shirts and contributors to introduce.

Susan W. is a friend, fellow quilter, and machine embroiderer extraordinaire! She has given me some great tips on how best to make the labels for this quilt, and agreed to step up and sponsor the Dodgers’ shirt. Thanks Susan!

The Selby family is the sponsor of the Blue Jays shirt. They used to visit their grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins who lived near Cleveland and would go to baseball games while in the area.

Going to bat for BAT–quick update

The heat wave broke yesterday, and I made a lot of progress! The blocks are cut, I decided on the order to use to assemble the quilt top, and Hugh and I arranged the blocks in six labeled stacks, under the supervision of Mac and Lillie.  Next, I cut vertical sashing strips from the wood grain fabric–think baseball bats–and assembled two of the rows. I can work on the rows downstairs (where it’s definitely cooler)–it’s good to have more than one sewing machine 🙂

Grace H. is a former co-worker of mine, and she’s an expert in sewing and quilting. She originally hails from Georgia, and is a devoted Braves fan, even though she now lives in New Jersey. Thanks Grace!

We have one more week of t-shirt contributor introductions, so let’s get started.

Sue M. is a fellow quilter who lives in the Baltimore area. She has a number of baseball fans in her family, and contributed this shirt in honor of her grandmother, who used to keep score while listening to baseball on the radio. Thanks, Sue!

George E. Sr. is a retired police officer who lives in MA.  He is a die-hard Red Sox fan but also likes the Cardinals as he has friends who live in St. Louis. Thanks George!

As an aside, I do hope that  George won’t cheer *too* hard for them–since I’m a Pirates fan and they are playing each other this weekend!  🙂
